DEPOSITORS REJOICE
PART OF SAVINGS RELEASED. RESULT OF AMALGAMATION. (United Press Assn. —By Telegraph—Copyright.) Sydney, December 15. Old depositors of the New South Wales Government Savings Bank are rejoicing to-day that they are able to withdraw 10 per cent, of their savings under the amalgamation with the Commonwealth Bank. It is estimated that about £8,000,000 will thus immediately be released, but a considerable proportion is required in the case of small depositors who are liquidating debts incurred during the eight months since the State institution closed its doors. City business men, however, anticipate a fillip to Christmas trade. NO RUSH ON BANK. (Rec. 9.45 p.m.) Sydney, December 15. There was no rush to-day when the Savings Bank was reopened. The most popular amount of withdrawal was £5. An official stated: “It was hardly any busier than an ordinary day and certainly not as busy as the usual Christmas rush.”
