BLUFF REGATTA
COMMITTEE MEETING.

The Bluff Regatta Committee met on Saturday evening, when the president (Mr V. Metzger) presided over the following: Messrs F. W. McDonald (secretary), A. E. Budd, J. Morrison, G. Long, J. Forde, R. V. Weir, J. Williamson, A. Gilson, T. Greaney, W. Burtenshaw, K. McKenzie, W. Crozier, P. McQuarrie. In a letter wishing the committee a successful regatta, Mr T. F. Doyle (Mayor of Bluff) expressed his thanks for having been elected patron, and forwarded a donation towards the funds. A communication was received from the stationmaster at Bluff stating that the use of railway ground for the erection of booths, etc., would be granted as in previous years.
The Town Clerk wrote advising that the Bluff Borough Council would permit the erection of sideshow booths as usual, but would not permit the erection of refreshment stands between Gore street west and Slaney streets. It was mentioned at the meeting that there were plenty of sites available for all purposes. The Bluff Harbour Board forwarded a comprehensive plan of the board’s western reclamation area showing soundings on the sailing course to the oyster wharf and also the area of the Priestman dredge dumping ground.
The Bluff Watersiders’ Band wrote thanking the committee for giving them an opportunity to quote a price for services on regatta day and submitting a tender. Decided to confer with band regarding the price quoted. A letter was read from the Invercargill Boating Club acknowledging receipt of the Bluff regatta programme and asking if the committee would agree to contestants in the sailing race arranging their own manner of starting. This matter was left to the sailing committee to deal with. The proprietors of the Southland Times wrote wishing the committee success and forwarding a donation. It was announced that the following trophies had been donated for swimming races at the regatta: Gold medal (Mr S< McMillan, Southland Coal Company) ; silver medal (Mr H. P. Campbell, jeweller) ; manicure set, for girls’ race (Mr W. Stewart, chemist); silver watch and chain and tennis racquet (Messrs Holloway Bros.). All the above are residents of Invercargill. Satisfaction was expressed on the receipt of information that four yachts and a fleet of fishing vessels would be coming from Stewart Island to contest the sailing events.
The committee decided to appoint the launches zkwarua and Drysal pick-up boats on regatta day.
