SHIP’S OFFICERS
NO POSITIONS AVAILABLE. 18 SERVE AS SEAMEN. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright) London, December 13. The Sunday Express says that the Port Gisborne has arrived at Hull from New Zealand with eighteen young qualified ship’s officers serving in the foc’sle because there are no posts available. The senior officers said the young men entered sportingly into the arrangement. They received no privileges and lived the same life as an ordinary seaman. The scheme had the approval of the National Union of Seamen, but it was feared the Australian unions had not approved. It is stated that all have signed on for Australia this week.
