RED CROSS SOCIETY
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Invercargill Red Cross Society was held on Friday, the Uth inst. there being present: Mrs W. P. Smith (president, in the chair), Mesdames J. G. Petrie, H. Acton, A. Hanan, R. Henderson and A. Hamilton. Headquarters forwarded a copy of a cable received from London over the signatures of Sir Percival Wilkinson, secretarygeneral, Order of St. John, and BrigadierGeneral H. B. Champain, C.M.G., secretarygeneral of the British Red Cross Society, relative to the proposed formation of the New Zealand Red Cross Society. The registrar of pensions, Dunedin, advised that the secretary’s nomination as Red Cross representative on the local advisory sub-committee of the Disabled Soldiers’ Civil Re-Establishment Act had been approved. The ladies reported visiting the Southland Hospital weekly, there being at present 15 soldier patients. Fifteen applications for underclothing were received and thirteen granted. It was decided to hold the next meeting on February 12.
