SOUTH AFRICAN TEAM COUNTRY SIDE FAILS BROWN BOWLS WELL (United Press Assn.— Dy Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Newcastle, December 13. The country team failed badly in the first innings against the South Africans. The bowling of Brown was deadly. The schoolboys, Rudd and Robinson, justified their inclusion, the latter making top score. The Springboks shaped better in the second innigs the Cameron-Viljoen partnership realizing 153. The captain’s century was made in 70 minutes. It was his first of the tour and included 19 fours. He was dismissed as the result of a brilliant one hand catch on the boundary in the last over of the day. The State selectors were present at the match. Mr Tandy, interviewed, declared that nothing had’ yet definitely been decided with regard to the New Zealand tour. The scores were: COUNTRY TEAM. First Innings.
