FATALLY INJURED

CYCLIST RUNS INTO MOTOR CAR.

(Per United Press Association.)

Auckland, December 13

Fatal injuries were received by a cyclist, William Lovell, aged 22, of Dominion Road, when his machine collided with the rear of a motor car at the corner of Orakei Road this morning. Lovell was returning along the drive after a spin to Mission Bay. He was riding a new racing bicycle and a friend was riding another bicycle some distance behind him. As Lovell reached the corner a car driven by Mrs Raymond Sheath, came on to the drive. The ear was turning to the right and the cyclist endeavoured to pass behind it. Lovell’s bicycle struck the rear part of the car with considerable force and he was thrown directly against the car. He was picked up with extensive head injuries and he died within a few minutes. Mrs Sheath and her two children who were in the car were not injured. The mudguard on the car was buckled and one of the rear windows was broken. The front part of the bicycle was smashed.

Lovell lived with his widowed mother and was employed as a clerk in the office of the Auckland Transport Board.
