VERDICT OF ACCIDENTAL DEATH

NEED FOR CRASH HELMETS STRESSED. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, December 12. Returning a finding of accidental death in the case of A. V. Radcliffe, who died at Wellington Hospital on December 7 as the result of injuries received when he crashed at the Kilbiniie Stadium on November 28, the Coroner (Mr McNeill, stressed the importance of crash helmets as a safeguard against injury. The medical evidence shower! that Radcliffe died as the result of concussion and laceration of the brain. Mr McNeil said he wished to draw t.he attention of the officials of the club to the great necessitiy of having a steward to see that in every race the competitors had their helmets securely' fastened. That apparently had been the practice in the past and had been insisted on by the club officials.

It was stated in evidence that the deceased was wearing his helmet when he crashed and that it either came off or was removed afterwards.
