419. —Rhyming Ladies.
(Written for the Southland Times.) Bards of the north, the sunny north! Where Celts are thick as summer bees; Where Irishness Is uttered forth In Eileen’s dainty melodies.
Where Ishbel Somebody or Other, W T ould say a twilight beats the sun, And all would call “A. E.” their brother, And give us Celt lore underdone.
It hurts me why those pretty folk, Whose cleverness is still undoubted, Should seek in distant lands a cloak, And leave poor old New Zealand flouted. —Southerner. Invercargill, December 14, 1931,
