DRAIN TILE PRICES.
To the Editor. Sir, —As we are interested parties in the manufacture of drain tiles, the misleading statements from the pen of your correspondent “Swamp Jack” demand correction. Our Prices. Y ear 1914 Year 1931 3in tiles 80/- per 1000 140/- per 1000 2Jin tiles 70/- per 1000 110/- per 1000 Wages 1/- per hour 1/8 per hour Coal at Works. Best Nightcaps 17/- per ton best Ohai- 36/4 per ton. The above figures can be verified from a perusal of our books. Your correspondent mentions the raw material, he will no doubt understand that the capital value of land may be £lOO an acre, but a worked out clay pit is worth less. Our prices are the lowest in New Zealand and the large quantities that are railed to Otago and Canterbury from our works goes to prove they give satisfaction. The publication of such a misleading statement as is contained in the letter by “Swamp Jack” goes to show, sir, that you as editor will in fairness to your readers require to exercise some supervision of the figures quoted by correspondents.—Sir, We are etc.,
