AMATEUR SPORTS CLUB. SPORTS ON DECEMBER 2. (From Our Correspondent.) The monthly committee meeting of the Amateur Sports Club .was held on Tuesday evening, Mr Thomas Bell (president) being in the chair. It was decided to apply to the Wyndham Town Board for permission to charge 6d and 3d at evening sports after December

After a lengthy discussion it was decided to hold evening s[x>rts on Wednesday, December 2, at 6.30.

It was resolved that signal warnings be erected at dangerous corners in the road race route.

The president brought up the matter of holding shooting in summer as well as in winter time. He said that at present they were catering for miniature shooting in the winter months and amateur sports in the summer. He thought it would tie splendid to also cater for riflemen during the summer months. Mr Ronald, endorsing the president’s remarks, said they could easily secure interclub matches, but where could they procure land for a range. Mr Kirby said he was in favour of erecting a .22 rifle range, and offered the club a piece of his property for such purpose. It was decided that Messrs Kirby and J. A. Munro submit a report at the next meeting. Forestry. The fortnightly meeting of Court Royal Oak, No. 6532, Wyndham, held on Monday evening, took the form of a social reunion of Southland Lodges. CJI. Ross, E. Frame, W. J. Marsh, 11. W. Macdonald, J. J. Christie and M. Milburn (secretary).

The president introduced the matter of the date for the sports and mentioned that as the Mataura Society were not holding their meeting he thought that it was possible that Mataura’s date could be secured for the Wyndham Society. The matter was freely discussed, and the members agreed that the date which Mataura had forfeited (Monday, December 28)„ was a much more suitable one than the date allotted to Wyndham (January 13). The president mentioned that the New Zealand championships were being run this year at Edendale and Tuatapere, and if Wyndham could hold their meeting in December, there would be every prospect of receiving entries from the northern competitors who would be competing throughout Southland at Christmas time. Mr D. Sinclair moved that the society apply for Monday, December 28, as the date for the sports, and mentioned that if that date was secured this year Wyndham would have first chance of holding their meeting on the day following Boxing Day every year.
