KELVIN ROAD

SEALING APPROVED BY COUNCIL. COST NOT TO EXCEED £lOOO. The City Council last evening adopted the following clause in the Works Committee’s report: Having further considered the matter of the surface sealing of Kelvin Road and having received a report from the city engineer containing alternative proposals anil estimates of the cost. Recommend that a two-coat .sealing 24ft. wide for the full length of the street lie carried out at a cost not exceeding £lO6O, to be paid out of streets loans balances; that when the street is completed traffic be restricted to a maximum load of six tons on two axles and that notice boards drawing attention to same be erected in suitable positions; that the city engineer be instructed to proceed with the work forthwith by dav labour. Councillor Tapley asked the chairman of the committee to assure the council that for the expenditure good value would be received. Councillor Ball said the Works Committee was satisfied that the work proposed was the only improvement practicable at present. It was anticipated that the road would serve for at least several years. Councillor Ford said the durability of the road would serve as a good criterion for future undertakings. Councillor Brodrick suggested the advisability of widening the road by the removal of the rubble kerbing.
