Mr John Matheson, chairman of the Southland Hospital Board and also of the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee, Mr T. The death occurred in Christchurch on Saturday of Sister Miriam (Miss Miriam Fawcett Dodds) of Port Chalmers, at the age of 60 years. Sister Miriam was born at. Kelso, Scotland, and she came to Port Chalmers with her parents at an early age. She was educated at the Port Chalmers School and, in her later life, she took an active interest in the social work of the Presbyterian Church. In this work, she was stationed in various parts of the South Island. She went from Port Chalmers to Akaroa, and later lived in Ashburton for some time. She then went to Christchurch, where she became a deaconess in St. Andrew’s Church, a position which she occupied for a long period. She held a similar position in Knox Church, Dunedin, for about a year, and then returned to Christchurch to live with her mother. While in Dunedin, Sister Miriam’s work was mainly concerned with child welfare. During the past few years, she has suffered considerable ill health. She is survived by three brothers —Messrs J. S. Dodds (Christchurch), G. S. Dodds (Nelson) and N. Dodds (Port Chalmers).
