ROTARY MOVEMENT

INTER-CLUB MEETING. VISITORS FROM GORE. The midday luncheon of the Invercargill Rotary Club gave way yesterday to an evening dinner, the occasion being a visit from the Gore Rotary Club. After enjoying a good dinner the local Rotarians extended through their president a hearty welcome to the delegation from Gore. The Rotary programme was observed for the first hour, this being followed by a short toast list, interspersed with musical items by Messrs R. Henry, Evans and L. E. Dailey. During the first part of the evening the infliction of fines took place on a more extended scale than usual, the collection going towards the funds of the Jubilee Institute of the Blind, quite a good sum being raised by this happy means. The principal address of the evening was delivered by Rotarian J. Hunter, of Gore, whose subject was “Some aspects of Rotary.” The address was listened to with great interest, being a well-thought out commentary on the history and possibilities of Rotary.

Besides the loyal toast, the other toasts honoured were: “The Gore Rotary Club” (proposed by Rotarian A. le 11. Hoyles and responded to by Rotarian G. Whittingham, vice-president of the Gore Club / ; “Rotary International” (proposed by Rotarian William Macalister) ; and “Our Musical friends” (proposed by Rotarian H. J. Farrant).

An enlarged framed photograph of the past-president, Dr. A. T. McCaw, was presented to the club by the president, Rotarian M. N. Hyndman.

The inter-club evening was a success in every way, and a return visit is hoped for at an early date.
