A CONVERT’S REASONING.

To the Editor. Sir, —I was amused on perusing the Coalition manifesto that was delivered by post to-day. The very facts set out on this pamphlet, as a reason why we should vote for Coalition, show the need for a change of Government. It brazenly sets forth the disgraceful figures of our decrease in national income, the fall in production, and the consequent increase in unemployment brought about by years of faulty legislation. When I came to the paragraph dealing with land settlement and the audacious statement that the depression, with its consequent fall in land values, was likely to prove beneficial, I rubbed my eyes and looked again before I could believe that anyone could insult my intelligence by asking me to vote for the author of it. In fact it struck me that the whole screed was a group of very good reasons why I should vote for Mr Denham on December 2. Both the United and Reform parties failed to prevent the depression. So how can they cure what they could not prevent?—l am, etc., CONVERT TO LABOUR. [A doctor might not be able to prevent an illness and yet be able to cure it. Our correspondent blames faulty legislation for the depression, but the depression is world wide. No political party in this country could prevent it. But the Labour Party s policy, if applied, will make it worse. —Ed., S.T.]
