SWEEP MONEY FOR DUBLIN
The world-wide popularity of the Irish sweep on the Grand National has affected sweeps organized by London clubs. The secretary of one well-known club stated recently that fewer subscriptions had been received for the club’s Grand National sweep than in any other year. He added: “At a time of prosperity members would probably have subscribed for several sweeps, but if they' have to limit their expenditure to one ticket they buy .one in the Irish sweep. Derby sweeps in London clubs will be even more seriously affected, for the amount of money that will leave this country for Ireland on the Irish Sweep will be enormous.” Other clubs reported a.similar experience. In many cases men and women who formerly organized private sweeps in offices and small clubs found that members preferred to buy tickets in the Irish sweep instead.
