SPLENDID WIN

NEW ZEALAND TEAM NORTHANTS BEATEN BY SIX WICKETS LOWRY’S ACCURATE BOWLING (Special to Press Association.) ~ Peterborough, June 23. The New ZcalancT cricketers concluded their match against Northamptonshire today in fine weather, gaining a meritorious victory by six wickets. Bellamy was unable to bat, owing to an injury. Play opened sensationally when Lowry, bowling the leg theory round the wicket, took three cheap wickets, including those of Timms and Cox with successive balk. Blakewell again struck form and batted with confident vigour. Blakewell and Woolley added 90 for the fourth wicket, while the remaining batsmen made a poor showing against Merritt, adding only 39. Blakewell remained undefeated throughout the innings, and an occasional tendency to nibble at the ball outside the off stump could not spoil a fine effort.■ He batted for 170 minutes and hit eleven fours. A feature of the New Zealand attack was Lowry’s bowling. In the last two matches he has bowled accurately and with design and fully deserved his wickets. New’ Zealand were left to score 155 after lunch for a victory and the task was accomplished with 75 minutes to spare. Three wickets fell for 49. Kerr showed a return to his New Zealand form and, with Page, added 49 for the fourth wicket, being especially powerful oh the leg side. The success of Kerr and Vivian will increase the. difficulty of making a selection of the Test eleven. Scores:—r NORTHANTS. First Innings 334 Second Innings.
