THE GORE ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The fortnightly meeting of the executive of the Gore Returned Soldiers’ Association was held in the club rooms on Tuesday evening. Mr F. Foulston (president) occupied the chair, and the following executive members were present: Messrs F. M. Murray, T. Fyfe, A. H. W. Aitken, E. J. Columb, L. Roberts, T. Rusbridge, J. McDonald, P. R. Stewart, A. C. Steel, C. M. Wilson, R. B. Bannerman and G. L. Gerken (secretary). Mr W. D. Shelton, who is representing the Gore association at the annual conference at Wellington, was also marked present. The hospital visiting committee reported on its visits to the Gore Hospital during the past fortnight. Two ex-soldiers were undergoing treatment on the occasion of each visit. The committee was thanked forks report, and Messrs Fyfe and Rusbridge were appointed a visiting committee for the next term.

Four new members were elected to the association. The secretary reported that the financial membership now stood at 126, as . against 105 last. meeting night and 166 at the corresponding period last year. The secretary of the Dunedin R.S.A. wrote applying for the transfer of Mr H. H. F. Grant from the Gore Association to his association.—Approved. The secretary of the Invercargill R.S.A. wrote stating that his association would be able to place two Gore unemployed exsoldicrs on the Waikawa-Curio Bay road as soon as the work was commenced, and hopes to be in a position to employ more at a later date. The secretary was instructed to write thanking the Invercargill Association. The secretary reported that the sum of £lB from the Poppy Day funds had been forwarded to the Mataura Association to provide work for and to relieve distress among unemployed ex-soldiers at that centre.

The question of dealing with the remainder of the Poppy Day funds was discussed, and it was decided that as far as possible they be held intact until the proposed unemployment legislation, which the Government is bringing down, is disclosed. Mr Fyfe was deputed to make inquiries as to the position so far as Gore is concerned regarding the formation of the volunteer defence force now being inaugurated, and to report to the next meeting.
