HOCKEY
EASTERN DISTRICT GAMES. The Eastern Southland ladies’ A and B grade hockey fixtures were continued yesterday in dull but fine weather. EX-HIGH v. MIMIHAU. The Ex-High team defeated Mimihau at Hockey Park by 3 goals *to 2. The ground was heavy particularly at one end where pools of water kept the ball from travelling. Ex-High were without three of their usual players, but on the day the teams were very evenly matched. The game throughout was fast, but both teams were inclined to bunch, play in the circle being of a very scrambly nature. The score at half-time was 2 to 1 in favour of ExHigh, each team adding a goal in the second spell. Goals for Ex-High were scored by Misses M. Murdoch, C. Allen and V. Nichol. Misses I. McDonald and M. McDonald scored for Mimihau. Mr H. Halliday was referee. MATAURA v. HIGH SCHOOL. A very evenly contested game between Mataura and High School played on the Hostel ground ended in a draw, each side scoring 3 goals. For Mataura* goals were scored by Misses B. Donnell, E. Maley and M. Maley. High School’s goals were scored by Miss M. White. Mr A. D. Crawford was referee. HOKONUI v. WAIKAKA. Playing at Waikaka Hokonui drew with the home team, each side scoring four goals. B GRADE. High School B defeated Hokonui B by two goals to nil.
