WATERFRONT FIRE
ENORMOUS DAMAGE HARBOUR FACILITIES DESTROYED NEW BRUNSWICK DISASTER (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) St. John (New Brunswick), June 22. The west St. John waterfront was swept by fire to-day, the estimated damage being 10,009,000 dollars. Practically the whole of the Harbour Commission’s facilities were destroyed, including seven sheds, grain conveyors, an old wooden elevator, the Canadian Pacific baggage shed, many wharves and the pilot boat Gluskap. The Canadian Pacific steamer Empress caught fire and also the new Canadian Pacific' elevator. With sparks falling on the fishing boats, huge stones were dropped on to their decks to sink them. Thousands of dollars worth of fishing nets were burned. The wind blowing towards, the harbour saved the fire spreading to the upper portions of the town.
