EASTERN DISTRICT GAMES. Keenest interest in to-day’s Rugby fixtures in the Eastern District competition will be centred in the match between Pioneer and Mataura on the latter club’s ground. The defeat of the Pioneer team by the combined team on Wednesday last placed Mataura in a strong position, so that Pioneer will require to win to-day’s fixture if they are to make up the leeway. At Gore, Albion play the Combined team and an interesting game may be expected from two fairly evenly matched teams. REFEREES APPOINTED. The following are the referees for to-day’s matches:— First Grade: Albion v. Combined at Gore, Mr D. Little; Pioneer v. Mataura at Mataura, Mr R. Marshall. Second Grade: Pioneer v. Albion at Gore No. 2, Mr R. Taylor; Waimumu v. Combined at Edendale, Mr G. Dickson; Mataura v. Pukerau at Pukerau, Mr J. Baldwin. Third Grade: Mataura v. Albion at Gore No. 3, Mr J. McGrath; High School v. Seaward Downs at hostel, Mr R. W. Stevenson. Fourth Grade: High School A v. High School B at hostel, Mr M. Fowler; Pioneer v. Wyndham at Wyndham showgrounds, Mr Werry.
