SOUTHERN DISTRICT SPORTS MATCHES. (From Our Correspondent.) With the commencement of the matches in the second round on Saturday, June 20, all teams completed their fixtures. The playing areas were very greasy from . the hard frost in the morning and difficult handling of the ball lost several good chances. Fortrose travelled to Otara and a very keen game was witnessed. The halftime score was 3 to nil in favour of Otara. Upon resuming the Otara team took play to Fortrose 25. The game was a very forward one, and when play did come out to the backs all advantage was lost, both sides hanging on far too much when in good positions to score from. From a scramble on the line just in time Fortrose managed to get over to equalize 3 —3. For Fortrose M. Hurle secured their try and A. Downie for Otara. Mr W. Hagen controlled the game. Waimahaka travelled to Gorge Road and went down to defeat by 7 to 3. Tokanui having a bye. Hockey. The Otara team travelled to Tokanui and maintained their unbeaten record. A very keen game was witnessed by a large crowd of spectators. Play for the first spell was very even, the Otara goalie making some beautiful saves. The defence of the visitors held the Tokanui team up on many occasions from scoring. The half-time score was I—nil, scored by Miss N. Ericson in favour of Otara. The second half was very fast, and the local team put on three more goals to Tokanui 1, Miss M. McEwan scoring for Tokanui from a solo rush down the field. For Otara the Misses M. Milne, E. Blair, R. Jennings, and N. Ericson secured goals. Mr A. W. Milne and Mr 11. Brown refereed the match, Mr Tillard being unable to travel. Fortrose travelled to Gorge Road and secured a win over that team by 6 goals to 1. Mr J. Sinclair was referee. Waimahaka beat Waikawa 4 goals to 1. Mr R. A. Cox was referee.
