RIVERSDALE NOTES
(From Our Correspondent). A meeting of the Riversdale Branch of the Farmers’ Union was held on Tuesday evening, Mr T. McMath presiding over a fairly representative gathering. There was a good deal -of discussion on matters relating to farming interests. It was finally decided that the following remits be forwarded to the Provincial Executive: — (1) “That this branch strongly objects to revenue derived from the Petrol Tax being used for any other purpose than its original one of road maintenance. (2) That the Farmers’ Union do its utmost to get interest lowered, and local rates reduced with the object of ultimately derating farm lands. (3) That this branch strongly objects to tractors used only for hauling, threshing and chaff-cutting plants being. subject to motor taxation.” It was also decided to forward a copy of remit number two to Mr Adam Hamilton and to request him to bring the matter up in the House. Personal. On Wednesday evening a . large crowd assembled to bid farewell to Miss Winnie Stanton, who is about to be married. The chairman, Mr Gee, in his opening speech made reference to the interest which Miss Stanton had taken in the sports of the district. She was, he stated,, the mainstay in the tennis and hockey teams .and, no matter whether Miss Stanton won or-lost, she came off smiling.-Mr Gee then wished her every happiness and prosperity in; her future life. Mr T. Campbell endorsed Mr Gee’s remarks and made special reference to the high esteem in which the Stanton, family was held. Mr Campbell.then took the si is te filiate a
tray of beautiful'crystal ware, donated b» -Miss. Stanton’s many friends. Mr J. C. Mac.Pherson endorsed the remarks of the other speakers. Mr M. Roche also wished Miss Stanton the very best of luck. Mr Linsky, • on behalf of Miss Stanton, heartily thanked them for their generous gifts and for their appreciative references to Miss Stanton. During the evening items were given by Miss T. Zither (dance), Miss K. Clarke (song), and Mr S. Gordon (song). The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing, Mr P. Zither efficiently carrying out the duties of M.C. Music was supplied by Bain’s orchestra and extras by Mr E. Sanson.
