OUTSPOKEN INDICTMENT

COMPULSORY MILITARY TRAINING. (Per United Press Association.). Hamilton, February 26. An outspoken indictment of compulsory military training was voiced by the Bishop of Waikato lecturing on the subject of war. It was quite time we did away with it, he said. The British Empire had done very well by its voluntary army and why one of the smallest dominions of the Empire had laid it down that compulsory defence, extending though it did over a limited number of days in the year, should be adopted, he had never understood. “I do not think the youth of New Zealand liked it, and I am certain the youth of Britain would never tolerate it,” said the Bishop. "I am indeed glad to see that the Government, for whatever reasons, has abolished compulsory training, and I hope it will never come back again. I am sure that the young men of New Zealand would rally to the flag should the time come or the need arise. If I have said something unpopular, I cannot .-help it.” . ..
