LIMEHILLS NOTES

SCHOOL CONCERT AND PRIZE LIST. The annual concert of the Limehills school was held in the hall on Thursday evening, when there was a record attendance, many having to stand. The programme was given by the children, and many of the items were encored by an appreciative audience. The “Maple Leaf” by the senior girls, dances by the girls, club swinging and Swedish drill by the senior boys were items specially worthy of mention.

At the conclusion of the concert, the chairman, Mr Janies Lindsay, thanked the public on behalf of the children, teaching staff and committee for their loyal help. Mr Lindsay said the funds from the concert would help, the committee materially and encourage it in its work for the school. Continuing. Mr Lindsay said the school had had a successful and progressive year. The attendance at the opening of the year was 110 pupils, and the roll closed with 119. The outstanding events of the year for the children were the winning of the Swale Shield at the local sports meeting. At the Winter Show the school had secured 12 prizes and was second in most points, this speaks well for the school garden. Then the boy’s had won the Watson Cup at football, winning all their matches. He paid a tribute to the work of the teaching staff and committee. Mr Lindsay called upon Mr Clark, president of the Central District Rugby SubUnion to present the Watson Cup to the boys. Mr Clark, in presenting the cup to the captain (Harry Bayne) of the school football team, congratulated the team on their success and hoped they would continue to play the clean open game which the headmaster, Mr Lewis, had taught them. He then called for three cheers for the boys. The prizes were then presented bv Mr Linds-” The little tots who are not yet going to school recei'"' 1 a book each. Judging by the number of first class attendance certificates issued in each class the regular attend nee must have been exceptionally’ good. Two of the pupils who had attended for seven and eight years respectively were -resented with framed awards, these bein Florence Carter (eight years) and Lurlene Thomson (seven years). Mr L. R. Lewis, headmaster, thanked all those who had helped with the concert, special mention being made of the dancers for their items and Mr R. Finlayson of Dipton, who played the bagpipes for them. He also wished to thank the parents for their help and co-operation in making the concert the success it was, also the teaching staff who had spared no efforts in doing their share of the work involved. Mr Lindsay said they were losing two of their probationers, Miss Robertson and Miss Calder, who were going to college. .Both had done good work during their t'errn at the school and as a token of appreciation, he had much pleasure in presenting each with a volume of poems and wished them well in the future.
