CABLE CHARGES

REDUCTION NEXT MONTH. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright) London, December 19. The Imperial Communications Company is reducing the cable charges to New Zealand to the wireless rates from January 1. It is pointed out that the agreement with Amalgamated Wireless provided for a similar reduction for Australian cable rates, but these will not be altered owing to the Commonwealth Government’s disapproval of the agreement.

NEW LIST OF RATES.

(Per United Press Association.) Wellington, December 10. The Postmaster-General (the Hon. J. B. Donald) announced to-day that, following negotiations between New Zealand’s representatives on the Communications Advisory Committee and the Imperial and International Communications Company, Limited, a substantial reduction in the cable rates between' New Zealand and Great Britain and Ireland will take effect from January 1. The new rates will be as follows: Ordinary, 1/8 per word; deferred, lOd; Government, lOd; daily letter, 10/- for twenty words or less; week-end, 8/4; Press, 4d per word; deferred Press, 3d.
