STORMY WEATHER

TORNADO STRIKES TAMWORTH. WEEK’S RAIN IN N.S.W. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright) Sydney, December 18. A tornado of unparalleled fury struck Tamworth, the wind reaching a velocity of over 60 miles an hour followed by flood and rains. Roofs were lifted bodily and the bulk store of Regan, Limited, was blown down. Renees and trees were torn up. A flying corrugated iron roof struck an electric cable, depriving the town of light and power. A man was sleeping on the verandah when the tornado struck the house and he was swept into the street, bed and all.

A message from Mudgee states that a party of 18, including 12 children, who were touring the country in search of work, were marooned on a strip of land between the Codgegong River and Lawson's Creek by the flood waters. The police effected a rescue in the nick of time.

Nearly a week’s rain has left a trail of damage in the western and southern areas of the State. Wheat has either been ruined or has suffered a serious deterioration and harvesting has been delayed. Much land is under water, rivers and creeks having their banks. Two railway washaways occurred.
