A QUESTION OF ACCESS.

To the Editor. Sir, —Your correspondent. Mr Longuet in criticizing “Justice's” and "Fair Play’s” letters, refers to “the limited sense of the true principles of either fair play or justice” possessed by the writers of those letters. Then he condemns Mr Curran who as far back as he can remember endeavouring “to take advantage of the council's work,” and those few words I think savour of prejudice against Mr Curran. , Now, Sir, can Mr Longuct deny that it was his firm acting as solicitors for the council that made the recommendation to close this avenue of access to the beach, and why such action was necessary as they (the residents) were not doing anything detrimental to the council’s property but rather enhancing the value of the beach as a week-end resort. Mr Longuet remarks: “I love fair play” but does he conscientiously think that the petty action of blocking this wilderness track which a few pioneers of the Orel! Beach have being using is giving the same fair play to them as our pioneers.got 50 years ago and which made Southland? Reviewing the. position from a legal point of view and from Mr Longuet’s statement I have not any hesitation in saying that Mr Longuet is quite right, but the legal aspect of a position does not always mean fair play and 1 think that where pioneering work is going on, that at least without injuring others or their rights, the greatest consideration possible should be shown them. “Justice” sees no “blunder” on his part, and therefore no occasion for any apology.—l am, etc., JUSTICE.
