SANDERS CUP

REPRESENTATION FROM SOUTHLAND.

DISPUTE OVER CHALLENGE. (Special to the Times.) Dunedin, December 10. At a meeting of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association to-night there was some discussion in connection with a letter received from the Invercargill Boating Club relating to the challenge forwarded by the Stewart Island Yacht Club for the Sanders Cup contest on behalf of Southland. It was stated in the letter that the Invercargill Club had four boats eligible for the contest and, despite efforts to form a Southland Yacht Association, the Stewart Island Yacht Chib had refused to be a party to such action. The Stewart Island Yacht Club had issued a challenge without consulting the Invercargill club with the result that it was out of order for the Otago Yacht Association to accept an independent challenge. The Invercargill club was anxious that the contest should be a success in' February but it did not see how the Southland province could be fairly represented unless matters were adjusted. It was decided that the association ad-' vise the Invercargill club that, in accordance with the Sanders Cup rules, the-chal-lenge forwarded by the Stewart Island Yacht Club was in order and suggesting that the Invercargill Club should communicate with the governing body, the Auckland Yacht and Motor Boating Association on the question. A second resolution carried was that the association communicate with the Stewart Island Yacht Club informing it of the receipt of the letter from the Invercargill club and asking it to make an effort to hold the trial races in conjunction with the Invercargill club. In the interests of the sport the Otago Association was anxious to see the best boat crew selected to represent the province.
