POLITICAL POLICE
NEW BODY IN ITALY. FORMATION OF THE OVRA. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) (Rec. 11.35 p.m.) Rome, December 9. The recent round up of anti-Fascists has revealed the existence of a new body of political police known as the Ovra, working directly under the Ministry of the Interior of which Signor Mussolini is the head. The Ovra’s agents range from society people to porters. All are pledged to secrecy. The Tribuna says that the Ovra steps in before crimes arc committed instead of afterwards. It is silent and sudden, and its arrests arc followed by trial at special tribunals. There is nothing more to be said.
