INSTALLATION NIGHT.

ANNUAL MEETING OF ORDER.

The annual meeting of the Gore Druids Lodge, No. 10, was held on Friday evening, A.D. Bro. L. Ferguson presiding over a very satisfactory attendance of members. One new candidate was admitted to full membership of the lodge, the retiring officers conducting the initiation ceremony in a very creditable manner. One nomination for membership was also received and it was agreed that the initiation take place next lodge night. With the end of the financial year at hand, the secretary (Bro. T. J. Sherborne) distributed copies of the balance-sheet, the document disclosing that the advancement in membership and finance constituted a record. The secretary was warmly congratulated on his excellent work in connection with the order, both he and the treasurer being accorded a vote of thanks. The following are the principal items of the balance-sheet for the half-year: Balance last audit £145 5/4, contributions £333 7/11, refunds funeral claims £7O, refunds maternity claims £36, special funeral fund £6O 12/6, sundry receipts £29 19/9, total £675 5/6. Expenditure: Sick pay £lOB 11/8, transfers to sick and funeral fund £5l 13/3, Grand Lodge dues £l2 16/-; surgeons’ fees £ll4 10/-, chemists’ fees £35 8/8, special insurance fund £6O 12/6. other lodge doctors and maternity benefits £36, funeral benefits £7O, sundries £42 10/3, balance £143 3/2, total £675 5/6. The 1.G., Bro. Redmond, then announced the presence of the District President, Bro. W. ■ Crawford, who conducted the installation of officers, P.D. Bro. W. Stevenson introducing the candidates. The ceremony proved most impressive and the following officers were installed for the ensuing term: A.D., Bro. F. Hankey; V.A.D., Bro. R. Richmond;, secretary, Bro. T. J. Sherborne; treasurer, Bro. A. Kroning; 1.G., Bro. P. Walker; 0.G., Bro. James Middlemiss; A.D.B.’s, Bros. R. Adams and A. O’Kane; V.A.B.’s, Bros., J. Brown and W. Gerken, junior; M.C., Bro. C. Hodgson; JJP.A.D., Bro. L. Ferguson. The D.P. Bro. Crawford, who received a hearty vote of thanks for the splendid manner in which he had carried out his duties, stated that he derived no small pleasure from his office, and he advised officers to make a hobby of the ritual and it would result in their advancement in friendly society labours. The candidates initiated also returned thanks.

The lodge then adjourned to the GaietyHall, where a short toast list was honoured during the course of a social evening, “The King” and “The Druids” being proposed by the chairman. Other toasts were as follows: “Grand Lodge of Otago and Southland,” proposed by P.D.P. Bro. Fraser, response by P.G.P. Bro. Sherborne; “District President,” proposed by P.D.P. Bro. Stevenson, response by D.P. Bro. Crawford; “The Visitors,” proposed by Bro. Crawford, response by the representatives of various branches of the order present.
