MOKOTUA NOTES
SOCIAL EVENING. Despite exceedingly wintry weather conditions, a large number of residents of Mokotua and district assembled on Friday evening, the occasion being a house-warm-ing at the new home of Mrs C. Meredith, whose house was completely destroyed by fire a few months ago. The completion of a fine new modern house was marked by a social evening, during which the large gathering enjoyed dancing, cards and music, Mr John Bourchier, on behalf of those present, extended congratulations to Mrs Meredith and sons upon the fine new home now completed. Mr J. Meredith suitably replied on behalf of his mother and the family. Music for the dancing was ably supplied by Messrs W. Fraser, S. Mincher and B. Henderson.
Another new bungalow nearing completion at Mokotua Js that of Mrs A. Matthews. It replaces one of the oldest homesteads in Southland, being over 60 years old at the time of its demolition some weeks ago. Its removal takes away one of the familiar landmarks of Mokotua. With its old-fashioned attic windows, it will be remembered by those who were in the habit of attending the picnic of the old Garrison Band which wpre annually held in its vicinity many years ago.
