WAIHOAKA NOTES

Despite the wretched weather conditions prevailing, the bring and buy sale held in the hall on Friday, October 17, attracted a large attendance. Excellent business was done, as a result of which the Waihoaka School improvement funds will benefit to the extent of £2O. A strong committee of ladies, consisting of Mesdames Brown, McKeown, H. Church, Cox, Batten and G. Brownridge, had charge of the stalls and supper arrangements, and to them was due much of the success of the. evening. Mr Thomson, the teacher, on behalf of his committee, thanked all those who had in any way helped towards the success of the function. The result showed, he said, an evidence of real interest in the welfare of their school, and he assured the people that the money raised by their help would be spent to good advantage in further improving the local school grounds. The floor was then cleared for dancing to music supplied by Mr G. Thomson, extras being played by Miss M. Brownridge and Mr N. Carroll. Two competitions were held, the winners being: Lucky spot waltz, Mrs Brown and Mr G. Finn; Monte Carlo one-step, Miss Morris and Mr McKenzie.
