The Canterbury Steam Ship Company’s coastal vessel Calm reached Bluff at 8.15 a.m. on Saturday from Lyttelton. She has 300 tons of cargo to discharge and about the same amount to load, and is expected to sail this evening for Dunedin. The Tamatea left for Stewart Island at 1.20 p.m. on Saturday with passengers, mails and general cargo. She is due back tomorrow and sails again for the Island on arrival of the 10 a.m. train from Invercargill on Wednesday. .

The Union Company’s collier Opihi arrived at Bluff on Saturday with a fair cargo of coal for discharge. The Opihi is expected to finish to-day. She sails on completion of discharge for Dunedin. The past week was a very slack one on the waterfront, several days passing without any outside shipping to report. With the arrival of the Calm and Opihi on Saturday, however, the wharf assumed a brisker air; and as the Maheno, Kartigi, Canadian Highlander, Waikouaiti'and Port Nicholson are all listed for arrival this week, with others following at short intervals, a busier period is assured for the port.

The Union Company’s inter-colonial freighter Waikouaiti sailed from Sydney on Saturday for Bluff direct, where she is due on Thursday. After completing discharge the vessel sails the same day for Dunedin, Timaru, and Lyttelton. Leaving Lyttelton she proceeds to Oamaru and Bluff to load for Sydney. The Waikouaiti is due back at Bluff on November 3 and sails for Sydney direct the following day. MAHENO DUE THIS MORNING. Clearing Wellington on ' Saturday _ for Bluff direct, the -Union Company’s intercolonial passenger' steamer Maheno. is expected to. arrive at the Southland port at 6 a.m. to-day. After loading cargo and embarking passengers, the vessel sails for Melbourne direct at mid-night. - '
