FAMOUS LANDMARK TO GO. GOLDEN CROSS HOTEL. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) London, September 21. The relentless change which is sweeping over London reached one of the most famous spots' in Old London when the Golden Cross Hotel, adjoining Trafalgar Square, closed its doors for the last time during the week-end. 'Three hundred years of London history are associated with the Golden Cross. It was the Golden Cross to which David Copperfield came from Canterbury where Dickens represented Mr Pickwick’s encounter with the cabman, also from which Mr Pickwick drove the Commodore coach to the Rochester Hotel. Together with a great block of adjoining buildings, including ■ South Africa House, the Golden Cross is one of the few remaining landmarks which is now being demolished.
