BIBLE CLASS SOCIAL. (From Our Correspondent.) A very pleasant and enjoyable function in the shape of the annual social of the Mataura Presbyterian Bible Classes was held in the Horticultural Hall on Friday. In spite of the inclement weather prevailing a large crowd had gathered by 8 p.m., representatives numbering 100 odd coming from the various classes throughout the district, and since it was practically the last district social of the year it was entered into with great zeal by all present. Mr A. D. Currie held the reins and provided a good selection of games and a tasty supper was dispensed by the Mat aura girls assisted by several of the male members. Oddfellowism. The quarterly summoned meeting of the Mataura Falls Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F. was held on Thursday, N.G. Bro. Alan Richardson presiding over a fair attendance of members. Correspondence was read from the district secretary regarding several matters conveying fraternal greetings. The delegates to the quarterly meeting, P.G.’s Bros. W. Buchanan and R. W. Coltherd gave a comprehensive report of the business transacted and were heartily thanked for the interesting data supplied. The sick visitors reported three members on the funds and sick pay amounting to £5 was passed for payment, as well as other accounts amounting to £2l 5/10. It was reported that the official visit of the district officers would take place next meeting when it. was desirable that a full muster of officers and brethren should attend. One proposition for membership was received and accepted. Highland Society. The first monthly meeting of the year of the Mataura Highland Society was held on Friday. Chief A. N. Mac Gibbon supported by Chieftain J. Sutherland presided over a fair attendance. The meeting opened with harmony. Mrs T. Cameron contributed a pianoforte solo and Mr M. Cameron a solo. Mrs P. Amos was accompaniste while Mr P. Amos contributed an article on “Agriculture” in broad Scottish dialect. Afterwards a pleasant hour was spent at euchre and the meeting terminated with “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem. Personal. Mr J. P. Gardiner, third assistant at the Mataura dairy factory, has been appointed manager of the Switzers dairy factory. Mr H. Ross, Mataura, has purchased the Arthur’s Point Hotel, and takes' possession on Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Ross left for the Lakes district on Monday.
