WESTERN MAORI SEAT.
RATANA’S SON A CANDIDATE.

Auckland, September 19.
Haami Tokouru Ratana, son of the Maori prophet, Ratana, has been selected as the candidate of the Ratana people in the by-election in the Western Maori constituency which takes place on October 8. -Ratana is 36 years of age and has twice previously contested the seat unsuccessfully. In view of the choice of the leaders of the Ratana movement A. H. Te Mete, of Tauranga, who was expected to identify himself with Ratana interests, has decided to withdraw from the campaign.
