BILL TO REDUCE SALARIES. DECREASE IN TAXABLE INCOME. (United Press Assn.—By Telegraph—Copyright.) Sydney, May 21. In a series of divisions in which the Government was saved on two occasions by the casting vote of the Speaker, the second reading of the Civil Service Salaries Cut Bill was eventually carried by 45 votes to 43. Messrs Sanders and Tressider (Nationalists), voted with the Opposition. The Treasurer, Mr Stevens, said the diminution of the taxable income in this State for the coming year would amount to 22 per cent., while the savings, including the reduction of public servants’ salaries, would aggregate £2,067,000.
