HIGHER STANDARDS

BRITISH TERRITORIALS. TRAINING CHANGES. London, March 27. .During the next twelve months a number of changes will be made in. the training of territorial units with a view to raising the standard of proficiency. The general lines of policy will be to strengthen the association between territorials and the Regular Army. Camps this year will be arranged so far as possible to enable each territorial unit to join up with the affiliated Regular unit. Where this cannot be arranged the assistance of the local command will be available to make the annual training as.like the training of a Regular unit as possible. There will be an extension of the system of lending Regular officers and N.C.O's as instructors, and a freer use of Regular Army material is contemplated. Not only at annual training camps will co-operation with the Regular Army be extended. In future army instructors will attend more frequently at drill-halls, and specialist, units, such as signallers and engineers, may expect to receive much help from Regular Army officers and men. The purpose is to make the territorial army a more efficient reserve by training units and individuals in Regular Army ways. Economies in numbers are to be compensated by higher efficiency. The Army Council is satisfied that territorials can be trained to a nearer approximation to firstline troops by strengthening bonds with the Regular Army in every possible way.
