HEAVY DAMAGES
CLAIM FOLLOWS COLLISION.
NEGLIGENCE PROVED.

A claim for £2OOO general damages arising out of a motor cycle collision- on the Great JJorth Road in Augifet, 1929, was heard before Mr Justice Smith and jury in the Supreme Sourt. Alfred John Turner claimed from Samuel Edward Glenelg Bartrum, special damages for injury <to clothing £l7 13/-,' hospital expenses loss of wages £331 10/-, and general damages £2OOO, a total of £2437 3/-.
In his statement of claim, plaintiff said that on the evening of August 28, 1929, he was riding as pillion passenger on a motor cycle which was travelling along Great North Road in the direction of Avondale. At 6.30 p.m. defendant wae observed approaching from the opposite direction on a motor cycle.- He was then on this correct side of the road, but was travelling at an excessive speed. Defendant then swerved suddenly and collided violently with the other machine, hurling plaintiff and Skinner to the ground. The defence was a denial of negligence. The jury found that defandant was guilty of negligence, causing the accident, and that the amount of damages plaintiff was entitled to recover was £417 special damages and £lOOO general damages.
