The lonic and Kai Ora finished loading and sailed on yesterday afternoon’s tide. Although the weather was cold and showery, the watersiders stuck to the work and finished the boats in time for them to get out. Messrs. J. G. Ward and Company, local agents for the Federal Steam Navigation Company, advise that the steamer Kent which is coming to New Zealand from West Coast of the United Kingdom ports, sailed from Liverpool on Saturday, April 26 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff. She is due at Bluff towards the end of June. The Union Company’s Waipiata is expected to load at Auckland about May 8 for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff. She is due at the latter port on May 15. The Union Company’s Maheno is expected to leave Wellington at one o’clock this afternoon for Bluff direct. She arrives at Bluff on Monday and sails for Melbourne direct at seven o’clock on Tuesday morning. En route from Halifax, the Canadian Conqueror has reported that she expects to arrive at Auckland on Monday. She is expected at Wellington about five days later. The C. and D. Line has received a wireless message from the steamer Port Sydney, en route in ballast from London, reporting that she expects to arrive at Lyttelton at noon to-day. She will commence loading on May 5 for London, and will subsequently complete at Wanganui and Wellington. The vessel is due at Wellington on May 14 and will clear that port finally on May 18 for London, via the Panama Canal. Cabled advice has been received by A. S. Paterson and Co. Ltd., that the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’s liner Tainui cleared Southampton last Saturday for Auckland and Wellington. The vessel has passengers for New Zealand' and also general cargo for discharge at the above ports. She is expected to reach Auckland on June 1. Wet weather in Wellington has delayed three vessels. The Katoa was expected to leave there for Dunedin, where she is now due to-day to load for Auckland via ports. The Breeze and Gale are also due on Saturday. Both vessels will load for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui, and the Gale will include Picton as a port of call on this trip. In addition to passengers and mail for New Zealand, the Rangitata, en route from London and Southampton, has general merchandise for Wellington, Auckland, and Bluff. She is due at Wellington on May 14. While at Auckland she will commence loading for her Homeward voyage, her other loading ports being Bluff, Port Chalmers, Lyttelton and Wellington. She will be despatched finally from Wellington for Southampton and London via Panama on June 21. Personal Items. Captain W. W. Render, late of the Karepo, is to take command of the Waiotapu, in succession to Captain D. Todd, who is retiring from the Union Company’s service. Captain G. M. Curtis is in command of the Golden Cross, which is due at Lyttelton shortly from Los Angeles, via Auckland and Wellington, and he has associated with him the following officers: —Chief, Mr. W. E. Warnell; second, Mr. N. K. Jacobson; third, Mr. H. Peterson; chief engineer, Mr. A. Zimmerman; second, Mr. 11. Toomey; third, Mr. F. Botteron; fourth, Mr. R. G. Bartlett; radio operator, Mr. P. Morrish. In consequence of the illness of Mr. J. Naismith, chief engineer of the Tairoa, who was left ashore in hospital at Balboa, several changes have been made in the engineering staffs of Shaw, Savill and Albion steamers. Mr. W. Moore, chief engineer of the Kai Ora, has transferred to the Tairoa, and Mr. 0. S. Walker, second engineer of the Maornia, has joined the Kia Ora as acting chief engineer. Mr. 0. Chartres, acting chief engineer of the Tairoa, has joined the Maimoa as second engineer. WITHIN WIRELESS RANGE.
