COUSIN BETTY’S LETTER

—QUOTATION FOR TO-DAY.—

So on- and up, though road be rough, And the stones come thick and fast; There is room at the top for the man who tries, And victory comes at last. —Author Unknoivn. (Sent in by Cousin Zoe Smith).

My Own Dear Cousins, . Without any preamble I am going to tell you about the serial competition, send you my love, and be off, because I’m absolutely determined I won’t waste one inch of precious space this week. I was looking over the poems and stories left over from previous weeks the other day, and I was simply amazed to find how it had mounted up. Then I made the resolution that I would see that as much as possible would be used up this week, and that is why I have left out “Between Ourselves” altogether, and that is why my letter is going to be as short as possible. The first prize in the serial competition will be 30/-, the second 10/-. Now, so many of you have written asking my advice as to whether you should enter or not, that I have found it is absolutely essential to draw up an entry form. I want you to fill this in and post it to me not later than Wednesday, May 7, so that from these I can draw out the rules. You see, the difficulty is going to be to find space to publish them. When I have your entry forms I will have them as a guide in drawing up the rules. i SERIAL STORY COMPETITION. Name Age : Address : (Open only to Little Southlanders, with no age limit). Now, dearest Cousins, good-bye. Best love,
