PROGRESS IN TARANAKI. INTERESTING AVERAGES. The returns for the Taranaki Herd-test-ing Asociation for March show that the 18,123 cows tested in the various groups averaged 5791 b. milk and 5.0 test, producing 29.091 b. of butter-fat. In the Midhirst testing group 1122 cows averaged 32.081 b. fat, the best herd, of 18 cows, averaging 47.71 b. fat and the lowest herd of 38 cows, 261 b. fat. In the Uruti group, 987 cows averaged 31.511 b. fat, the best herd, of 45 cows, averaging 39.61 b. and the lowest herd of 32 cows, 22.91 b. fat. In Kaimata group, 1122 cows averaged 31.091 b. fat, the best herd, of 74 cows, averaging 42.91 b. fat and the lowest herd of 15 cows, 20.31 b fat. At Stratford, 1172 cows averaged 30.641 b. fat, the best herd, of 36 cows, averaging 35.661 b. and the lowest herd, of 38 cows, 22.41 b. fat. At Eltham 922 cows averaged 29.771 b. fat, the best herd, of 60 cows averaging 351 b. fat and the lowest herd, of 46 cows, 21.61 b. fat. At Toko, 1418 cows averaged 29.641 b fat, the best herd, of 14 cows, averaging 39.21 b. fat and the lowest herd, of 82 cows, 21.91 b. fat. At Moa, 1064 cows averaged 29.591 b. fat, the best herd, of 46 cows, averaging 40.501 b. fat and the lowest herd, of 55 cows, 17.91 b. fat. At Bell Block, 1311 cows averaged 28.92 lb. fat, the best herd, of 45 cows, averaging 50.81 b. fat and the lowest herd, of 47 cows, 19.11 b. fat. At Okoke, 1362 cows averaged 28 61b. fat, the best herd, of 22 cows, averaging 38.31 b. fat, and the lowest herd, of 48 cows, 22.61 b. fat. At Oaonui-Okato, 1322 cows averaged 28.431 b. fat, the best herd of 43 cows, averaging 36.661 b. fat and the lowest herd, of 32 cows, 19.91 b. fat. At New Plymouth, 1339 cows averaged 28 221 b fat, the best herd, of 31 cows, averaging 35.11 b. fat and the lowest herd, of 19 cows, 21.51 b. fat. At Eltham-Mangatoke, 1316 cows averaged 28.201 b. fat, the best herd, of 59 cows, averaging 37.21 b. fat and the lowest herd of 46 cows, 17.41 b. fat. At Tikorangi, 1367 cows averaged 27.811 b. fat, the best herd, of 35 cows, averaging 35.31 b. fat and the lowest herd, of 48 cows, 21.71 b. fat’ At Opunake, 1299 cows averaged 27 351 b. fat, the best herd, of 34 cows, averaging 35.61 b fat and the lowest herd, of 47 cows, 15.91 b. fat. At Mokau, 1080 cows averaged 20.681 b. fat, the best herd of 35 cows, averaging 37.71 b. fat, and the lowest herd, of 20 cows, 17.11 b. fat. Bell Block has the distinction of possessing the best herd average for the month, 45 cows averaging 50.81 b. fat, or .more than three times as much as the lowest herd, comprising 47 cows, at Opunake, which averaged only 15.91 b. fat.
