OUTBOARD MOTORS

AVENAL REGATTA. EXCITING FINISHES. HONOURS TO MISS ORETI. The banks at the Avenal course of the Invercargill Outboard Club were thronged with fully a thousand spectators last evening, when the second regatta ’ was staged. Weather conditions were ideal, and so satisfactory was the handicapping that some excellent finishes resulted. The Miss Oreti, driven by L. Tattersfield, emerged victorious in all four races—a very creditable performance having regard to the fact, that she had to concede substantial handicaps against her. At an appropriate interval Messrs Hamilton Bros, staged their original burlesque “Too many rods.” The antics of the broker of Jonah’s whale caused much enjoyment to the spectators. All the events were promptly despatched and the regatta was controlled by the following capable officials:—Judge: Mr J. H. Tattersfield; handicapper and umpire, Mr J. Wyllie; starters: Messrs P. Herman, E. J. Greenwood and P. Dawson. The various results were as follows: — TWO MILE HANDICAP. Five entries. Miss Oreti (L. Tattersfield —scr) sniins 44secs 1 Miss Cargill (W.
