Last night, the Government Meteorologist issued the following weather forecast from Wellington:—The cyclone is now moving away to the eastward of East Cape and an anti-cyclone is moving on to the Dominion. Indications are for south to south-east winds still strong from Cook Strait northwards, but decreasing gradually elsewhere to light to moderate and later becoming variable. Seas in New Zealand waters will be rough about Cook Strait and on the East Coast of the North Island, but moderating gradually and smooth to moderate elsewhere. In the Tasman Sea there will be moderate southerly winds in the Eastern Tasman later becoming variable with seas smooth to moderate. There are still some showers in North Auckland and in the East Cape and Gisborne districts, but the weather is improving and fine elsewhere with temperatures cool to moderate.

Ronald Collins, aged 21,. and James Sharp, aged 36, who were stowaways on the Uhmaroa from Sydney was each fined £1 and ordered to pay the second-class fare, £6, in default seven days, states a Wellington Press Association message.

The monthly meeting of the committee of the Gore District Angling Society was held at the residence of Mr R. Allison on Tuesday evening. Mr O. Howells presided. Preliminary arrangements were made for the general field day to be held at Pyramid bridge on the Mataura on February 23, and it was decided to invite all district angling clubs to participate in this function. Arrangements were finalized for the third Roche Cup competition to take place on February 16, the competition to be open to members of kindred societies. A monocoupe aeroplane piloted by Captain Sparks (Wellington) with its owner, Mr O. B. Cottrell (Lower Hutt) as a passenger, arrived at Blenheim at 6.20 on Tuesday evening after a pleasant 40 minute run from Wellington. The machine was expected to continue the journey to Christchurch last evening.

The combined Gore schools held their annual excursion yesterday, when favoured by excellent weather conditions an exceptionally large number of local residents and school children left by special train for Riverton. The business houses observed a holiday for the occasion, many employees taking advantage of this to join the excursionists. Approximately 820 passengers joined the train at Gore. The employees of Fleming and Co.’s Creamoata. mills also held their annual picnic yesterday leaving Gore by motor to spend the day at Colac Bay. *!
