WOOL SALES
THE AUCKLAND SERIES AVERAGE OVER £l6 PER BALE DECREASE ON LAST SEASON (Per United Press Association.) Auckland, December 4. On Monday approximately £256,000, less selling charges, was distributed among Auckland wool-growers as a result of the recent wool sale. Although it is a little early yet for an exact estimate to be made regarding the average return ' for each bale at the sale, averages struck over fairly representative offerings indicate that the figure should be somewhere' between £l6 and £l6 10/- a bale, compared with an average price of £22 10/- a bale at the first sale of last season. While the average price for each pound last season at the first sale was 15.6 d, it is not likely that the final figures this year will show a return of over 114 d a lb. Although some buyers in isolated instances paid an average of approximately £22 a bale for special lines, there are others whose average purchases work out down as low as £l2 a bale. One line of over 300 bales bought for Japan averaged £lB a bale.
