15 HOURS OF FUN

ATTRACTIONS IN TOWN AND RUGB.Y PARK ORETI BEACH -ASSOCIATION Fifteen hours of fun, thrills and enjoyment are promised to-day at the carnival organized by the Oreti Beach Association to raise funds for many necessary improvements at the beach. For many weeks the various committees set up by the association have been working hard to ensure a successful culmination to their efforts. From 9 o’clock this morning until midnight there should be no dull moments, for all sorts of attractions have been arranged. The balloon race, which has magnificent prizes attached to it both for purchasers and finders of balloons, is sure to be popular. For the sum of a shilling a man, woman or child may buy a balloon and let it float into space, carrying with it the chance of returning to its owner a £lO 10/- dinner set.

A jumble sale will be held throughout the day in Post Office square and a very varied assortment of goods has been secured. Probably the greatest attraction of the day will be the motor cycle and atheltic sports meeting at Rugby Park in the afternoon. So interested were the public in the practices -of the ’ motor cyclists that on Thursday evening more than 300 people gathered at Rugby Park to see the thrills. The timetable for to-day is:— 1.30 —Childrens’ Races. Under 8; 9 to 12; 12 to 15. 100 Yards, boys under 13. 100 Yards, boys under 15. 75 Yards, girls under 13. 75 Yards, girls under 15. 1.45— Dancing continued throughout the afternoon. An auction sale which is without precedent will take place in Post Office Square in the evening when hundreds of parcels that have been donated to the Oreti Beach Association’s carnival will be sold to the highest bidder. Those attending the sale are advised to watch for free packets of Sun Maid seedless raisins. Included in the lots to be sold by auction are seven parcels from chemists, six parcels from bootmakers, nine from bakers, five from sweet shops, four from music stores, six medals from jewellers and pictures, books, seeds, fishing material, spices and coffee and an electric iron. Four hairdressers have also given tickets entitling the bearer to free shaves and haircuts for a month, two picture theatres have given free seats, two taxi-stands free rides to the beach for five passengers, three photographers an order for a dozen photographs worth from £2 2/- to £2 10/-, three fish merchants orders for 10/-. worth of fish and two merchants 501 b bags of flour.
