ANZAC ESSAY COMPETITIONS. The results of the Anzac Essay Competitions among the town and country schools are now to hand, and the reports from the adjudicators show that the essays submitted this year were of a very high standard. The subject matter had been very well assimilated and the style was above the average expected of school children. This reflects credit on the teachers who must consider the results as eminently satisfactory. Results are as follows:— Town Schools. —Standard VI.: Ismay Fenn (South) 1. Standard V.: Pauline Robinson (Middle) 1. Standard IV.: C. Russell (Waihopai) 1. Country Schools. —Standard VI.: W. Elliott (Ohai) 1. Standard V.: J. Adcock (Ohai) 1. Standard IV.: Claire Traynor (Wyndham) 1. The banners donated by the R.S.A. to the schools gaining the highest aggregate marks in Standards VI., V. and IV. were won by South School and Ohai School respectively. A special prize was donated to the pupil sending in the best, essay from each of the secondary schools and resulted as follows: —Boys’ High School, J. P. Robertson; Girls’ High School, Margaret Pollok; Southland Technical College, Raymond Anderson. These essays were well-written and revealed good coaching and a sound knowledge of the subject matter.
