LUMSDEN NOTES

(From Our Correspondent.) The members, of the Lumsden School Jubilee Committee have every reason to feel satisfied with the results of the celebrations. Tho efforts of the members during the past six months were well rewarded as glorious weather prevailed during the three days and at every function there was a record attendance. The fancy dress ball held after the banquet was a huge success, the floor space being taxed to its utmost. Credit is due to Mr. A. G. Small for the excellent arrangements made for the ball. On Saturday morning there was a large attendance of ex-pupils at the school grounds where the roll call was made and photograph taken. In the afternoon the Nightcaps band arrived and led the procession of ex-pupils to the recreation ground, where a monster picnic was held, i Competitions were held for children and adults and a programme of music was supplied by the band. The success of the function on the grounds was in a large measure due to the energies of the picnic committee with Mr. T. Small as convener. Tho benefit picture entertainment was largely attended in the evening and a successful church parade on Sunday evening brought the celebration to a close. The hall in which the service was held was packed to the doors at 3 p.m. when proceedings were opened by the chairman. The service was conducted to the Rev. G. H. Renwick and an address was given by the Rev. G. 11. Lawrence. The singing was led by the combined choir of ex-pupils, the music being supplied by the band. At the conclusion of the service the chairman of the Ex-Pupils Association took the opportunity to thank those ladies and gentlemen who had assisted to make the functions a success. He also thanked the ex-pupils and public for their hearty support. The jubilee celebrations concluded with a procession from the hall to the post office where the ex-pupils joined in singing a verse of “Auld Lang Syne” and after a verse of the national anthem had been sung, the gathering, which had been successful from every point of view, dispersed. It is expected that the financial results of the functions will be satisfactory and this is in a large measure due to the hearty manner in which the headmaster, Mr. L. McKenzie, the school staff, and the members of the Ex-Pupils Association co-operat-ed towards the success of the celebrations. Golf.
