GORE MUNICIPAL BAND

CITIZENS’ COMMITTEE SUGGESTED.

(From Our Correspondent.)

Last evening a public meeting was held at Gore to consider the advisability of appointing a citizens’ committee to co-oper-ate with the committee of the Gore Municipal Band with a view to creating a wider public interest in the band’s activities. There was a fair attendance of band members, but the attendance of citizens was disappointing.

Mr E. Smith (vice-president) presided. The chairman stated that for a long time past the band had felt that sufficient interest had not been taken in it by the public, and that the appointment of a committee as suggested would not only create a wider interest in its affairs, but also encourage members to do better work.

Mr A. J. Kerse said that many citizens would be quite prepared to assist the band if they only knew how to go about it. The meeting was not representative enough to undertake the appointment of a committee, and he suggested that various public bodies should be requested to appoint representatives prepared to act on the proposed committee. He moved that the secretary write to the. Gore Borough Council, the Chamber of Commerce, the R.S.A., the Eastern District Rugby Union, the Gore Racing and Trotting Clubs, the Rotary Club, the Competitions Society, the Orchestral Society and the Gore Gymnastic and Boxing Club asking them to appoint representatives. The motion was carried unanimously. It was decided to call a further meeting when replies were received.
