RED CROSS SOCIETY

INVERCARGILL BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Invercargill Red Cross Society was held in the new rooms, Hanan’s Buildings, Dee street, on Friday, the 10th inst., there being present Mrs W. P. Smith (president, in the chair), Mesdames J. G. Petrie, H. Acton, A. Hamilton and Nurse Kerse. Reports of the activities of Sisters Lewis and Lees (Wellington), Sister Christian (West Coast), Sister Corkill (Taranaki), Sister Ingles (South Taranaki) and Sister Kirkpatrick (Otago Districts) were received for the months of March, 1929. Headquarters forwarded a list of underclothing issues granted by the Wellington Centre for the quarterly period ending March 31. Headquarters forwarded a copy of a cable received from the League of Red Cross Societies in reference to the famine in China. Mrs J. G. Petrie and Mrs H. Acton reported having visited the Southland Hospital, there being 10 soldier patients. It was decided to send a soldier patient to Queenstown for a month’s holiday on the recommendation of the medical superintendent of the Southland Hospital. Seventeen applications for underclothing were received, ten of same being granted.
